2011 Game 13 Review

Fireballz Vs. The Radio Rockstars, June 28th 2011 – I don’t want to talk about this one..

In what should be the last time the Rockstars have to play a team above their division this was the perfect example of why playing a higher class of team is only asking for trouble. With a pretty solid effort the Rockstars were embarrassed and fireworks almost erupted when the Fireballz started to rub the score in, this was a game to forget. Rockstars lose 26-6.

Game MVP’s.
TJ Chase – 4 for 4 with a Double. 1 Run and 2 RBI
Krystle Kalanj – 1 for 4.

2011 Game 11 and 12 Review

Lush Legends Vs The Radio Rockstars, June 21st 2011 – Up and Down..

The first game of the double header could have not worked out any better for the Rockstars, they put on a display of power at the plate that was reminiscent of the Red Sox when Big Papi and Man Ram were in their hay day. Playing Big Papi on this night was Chris who put on a impressive display of power hitting for the cycle, Man Ram was represented by Shane who was a triple away from the cycle. With the two big boys putting the ball deep everyone just got on base and went for a run, every player on the team had at least two hits and scored once. Cody ran across the plate 4 times, Jason, TJ, Steph, and Suneil came across 3 times for a blow out win in game 1. Rockstars win 26-8!

Chris had to skip Game 2 because of work so the Rockstars went down to 9 players which seemed to slow down the production at the plate and let the Legends into the game. The Legends also started to hit the ball a little better and challenged the fielders of the Rockstars. With Cody now in left field he had big shoes to fill because of Chris’s solid play in left field the last couple of years, with 2 runners on and 1 out a ball was hit over Cody’s head, Cody went back to his right about 6 strides and made a leaping grab to take away the sure home run. Another big play came a inning later when TJ tracked a foul ball and at the last moment made a jumping feet first slide to catch the ball, unfortunately it was out of bounds but it was a great play. After three innings the game was tied at 6 but the Legends sent up 6 batters in the 4th and scored 5 runs to take the lead 11-6. The big 4th inning by the Legends rattled the Rockstars who were only able to score 2 runs over the next two innings but going into the open inning they were only down by 4 runs (12-8). Shane started off the inning with a double and TJ singled to put two runners on with no outs. Jason was able to score both Shane and TJ with a single but that was all that the Rockstars were able to muster. Rockstars lose 12-10.

Game 1 MVP’s
Shane Mosher – 5 for 5 with 1 Home Run and a Double. 4 Runs and 4 RBI.
Steph Lauzon – 3 for 6 with 3 Singles. 3 Runs and 3 RBI

Game 2 MVP’s
Jason Januth – 4 for 4 with a Double. 2 Runs and 1 RBI
Lisa Dickson – 2 for 3.

2011 Game 9 and 10 Review

Straight Headliners Vs. Rockstars, June 16th 2011 – Double Header without the Coach..

With Game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs canceling the double header on Wednesday this game was moved to Thursday. The move knocked out the ability for most of the team to make the game so Nicole and Tina filled in so they could field a full squad. In the first game was close with the Rockstars scoring 4 in the top of the 8th to narrow the gap but they ended up losing by 2 runs. Final Score – 10-8 Headliners.

Game 2 had the Rockstars fight from behind the entire game when they got down 8-1 after 2 innings. The Rockstars tried to fight back but in the end they lost steam and lost 19-12.

Game 1 MVP’s
Chris Palliser – 4 for 4 with 1 Home Run and 1 Double. 2 Runs and 1 RBI.
Krystle Kalanj - 2 for 3 with 1 Double. 2 Runs and 2 RBI.

2011 Game 8 Review

Rockstars Vs. Roadkill, June 7th 2011 – We were due versus Roadkill..

In the four year history of the Rockstars they have never beaten Roadkill. The first year in the league both teams were in the C division and finished 1st and 2nd in the regular season, the next year they both moved into the B division and played there for two years before they split ways this year with Roadkill moving into the A and the Rockstars dropping down to the C division. They have always played close games over the years with Roadkill coming out on top, so the Rockstars were due.

Scoring 9 runs in the first two innings was exactly the start the team needed, 2 walks and 5 singles resulted in 5 runs in the first inning and doubles by Chris and Cody scored another 4 in the 2nd. Another development was the surprise start by TJ, he had been out since a knee injury in the preseason and he was starting his first game of the year at 1st base, his mobility was limited but having his bat in the lineup defiantly helped the Rockstars effort.

The solid hitting Roadkill struck back in the 4th when they narrowed the defect scoring 4 runs to make the score 12-10. The tide seemed to turn in the 6th when Roadkill took the lead for the first time in the game scoring 4 runs to take the lead 15-14, this is usually when Roadkill would close out the game but the Rockstars held strong. Solid play by Chris and Shane in the outfield held the big hitting Roadkill at bay and the pitching by Jason did the rest to limit the damage. Going into the 9th the Rockstars were down by one run and needed to hold Roadkill to have a chance in the bottom of the inning. A three up three down top of 9 was exactly what they needed, Krystle started off the inning with a strong throw at third to get the runner at first base, a pop up to Shane and a line out to Chris gave the Rockstars a chance going into the bottom of the inning down by 1 run.

The top of the lineup was coming up in the bottom of the 9th and Cody started it off with a double down the line. Chris singled to advance Cody to 3rd and Amy hit into a fielders choice to score Cody and tie the game. With Amy on 1st and 1 out Jason hit into a fielders choice and Shane lined out to right field to end the game. We were in a perfect spot to get our first win versus Roadkill but a strong game gives us confidence to beat them in the future. Final Score 17-17.

Game MVP’s
Shane Mosher – 4 for 6 with 1 Home Run and a Double. 3 Runs and 3 RBI
Steph Lauzon – 3 for 3 with 3 Singles. 2 Runs and 3 RBI

2011 Game 7 Review

Lagerheads Vs. Radio Rockstars, June 3rd 2011 – Knocking the rust off after 2 weeks off…

With one game being rained out and one canceled because of a conflict with a Canucks game the Rockstars hadn’t played in 2 and a half weeks and it showed. The Rockstars played like it was their first game of the year with dropped balls in the outfield and their swings being just a little off resulting in weak ground balls. The one major positive of the night was Shane’s play in the outfield and at the plate, he looked like he was in mid season form. The Lagerheads had some solid performers on their side but a fully performing Rockstars team would have fared much better on this night. But in the later innings the bats did wake up to make the game interesting.

Going into the Top of the 7th the Rockstars were down 13-5, singles by Cody, Jason and Rob got things going and Shane hit a three run Homer to make things respectable and in reach for a come back. Over the next two innings the Rockstars held the Lagerheads to zero runs on the back of Jason’s best pitching performance of the year and another strong game by TL at first. The Rockstars needed 5 Runs in the 9th to tie the ball game and force the Lagerheads to play the bottom of the inning. Cody lead off with a double and Jason and Taylor singled to score Cody and get things going. Shane continued his strong game with a double to score Jason and Taylor to increase his RBI’s to 6 on the night, a fielders choice hit by Steph and a fly out by Darryl ended the game but the Rockstars made things close and look better going into their next game. Final Score 13-11 Lagerheads.

Game MVP’s
Shane Mosher – 4 for 5 with 2 Doubles and a Home Run – 1 Run and 6 RBI
Lisa Dickson – 2 for 4.

2011 Game 6 Review

Radio Rockstars Vs. The Chubby Kid from the Sandlot, May 19th 2011 – I don’t remember this one.

Sorry but I don’t remember what happened during this one. A combination of not playing well and going to Vegas a few days later has completely erased this one from my memory. I do know it was the first game of the year for Steph, Shane, and Darryl, Rob hit for the cycle, Kyler pulled his hamstring, TJ and his Steph came out to support the team and little Madison made her Rockstar debut on the sideline helping Nicole out with the score keeping.

Rockstars lose a close one 15-13 and they allowed 7 Runs in the last two innings to let the game slip away from them.

Game MVP’s
Rob Rees - 4 for 5 with a Single, Double, Triple and Home Run. 3 Runs and 3 RBI.
Taylor Jukes – 2 for 5 with 1 Run.

2011 Game 5 Review

Radio Rockstars Vs. The Swingers, May 17th 2011 – Playing on the turf!

After TL ran the massive group of soccer players off the field at Andy Livingstone we were ready to play. This was the first game of the year for Suneil and Amy, also we had a couple subs come out to play which included the 7 feet tall Greg. Early on the Rockstars dug themselves into a hole going down 10-4 as they went into the bottom of the 5th. That’s when the team broke out, Krystle, Kyler, Greg and TL started the inning all with extra base hits and Suneil finished off the 5 run inning with a double to quickly close the gap to 10-9 for the Swingers. The Swingers were able to get a couple cheap runs in the 6th but the Rockstars came back strong with Cody doubling to start the inning then some small ball moved the runners around the bases and the Rockstars were able to score 4 runs to take the lead 13-12. The Swingers were able to tie up the game in the Top of the 7th, Krystle doubled to score Suneil who was on base with his third walk of the evening and the Rockstars had the lead by one going into the Top of the 8th with a chance to end the game. Three straight fly balls by the Swingers ended the inning quick and Taylor picked up another win on the mound. Rockstars win 14-13!

Game MVP’s
Kyler Jukes – 4 for 5 with 1 Double, 2 Runs and 1 RBI
Amy Norton – 1 for 4 with 2 Strike Outs!

2011 Game 4 Review

Radio Rockstars Vs. Pussycat Balls, May 9th 2011 – Lisa, “Our guys suck..”

With another lack luster turnout by the guys this game was put onto the shoulders of the Rockstar ladies and they did a great job getting on base and playing solid “D”. But the lack of power in the lineup by the guys hurt the Rockstars, the guys couldn’t get the ball deep enough to get the ladies running around the bases and this resulted in poor scoring. Taylor pitched another strong game and threw the first few innings she was able to hold the Pussycats to infield hits which limited the runs against, but they figured her out in the later innings and started to pound the ball into the outfield with ease. Chris played short stop for the first time this season and his solid play earned him MVP for the night. In the end the Rockstars lost 24-7.

Game MVP’s
Chris Palliser – 3 for 6 with a Double.
Lisa Dickson – 4 for 5 with 2 RBI.

2011 Game 3 Review

Team Participation Vs. The Radio Rockstars, May 3rd 2011 – So good until the last inning…

Still missing some of the power and depth that that Rockstars lineup can roll out the offense was impressive on this night with Chris, Jason, Lisa, Suneil and Nicole all batting 1000 on the night. The defense also looked solid, especially in the infield. Lisa was starting her first game at 2nd and she didn’t let one ball get past her, she either knocked it down to stop the runners from advancing or she made a play to either second or first. In the fifth inning with a runner on first Lisa caught a hard hit grounder and threw a ball to Rob at 2, the throw was a little off and Rob made a great laid out reach to get the out at 2nd. Team Participation hit a lot of balls out to Chris in center and his arm was on full display most of the night trying to pick off runners, in the 6th Chris threw one into Rob who made the relay throw to Nicole at home, it went off the tip of Nicole’s glove to allow the runner to score but she quickly ran back and threw the ball to Cody covering at home to get the second runner. Chris also made a hard throw to Cody at third to try and get a advancing runner, even though the throw was on time it was a little high and the runner slide under Cody to knock him out of the air and slide in safe. There were a lot of positives and impressive plays in the field on the night!

The Rockstars started off the game with 5 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks to bat perfect in the first inning, but the D was a little sloppy in the bottom of the inning giving up 3 Runs on over throws and dropped balls. Over the next three innings the Rockstars were able to put up 6 while holding the Participation to 3 runs, Jason hit his first of two home runs on the night in the 2nd inning. In the 5th inning both teams were able to score 5 runs, Jason started the inning off with a solo home run and Cody finished it off with a disputed grand slam(his run didn’t count because there were 5 in already). Over the next two and a half innings the Rockstars were able to pull away by scoring 9 runs, Nicole finished off her perfect night at the plate in the 8th with a single and Cody tripled to score her and finish his night off with 8 RBI, Chris then doubled to score Cody and the score was 24-15 going into the bottom of the 8th. That’s when things went off the tracks. The first batter for Participation hit a line drive into left and it got past Suneil for a triple, the next batter hit one into the gap in left center and Chris made a long run to cover the gap but it popped out his glove on his sliding attempt at the catch. Participation then hit one over Suneil’s head for a home run and followed that up with a smash to right that Josh got his glove on but dropped, the team was on a slide and fought hard to get three outs thinking they had the slim win. But Nicole went to the score book to tally up the final score and it turned out that we tied 24-24, Team Participation scored 9 in the bottom of the inning to shock the Rockstars.

Game MVP’s
TL Reburn – 2 for 5 with 2 Walks, 2 Runs and 2 RBI
Jason Januth – 6 for 7 with 2 Home Runs, 3 Runs and 6 RBI

2011 Game 2 Review

Boxcars Vs. Radio Rockstars, April 28th 2011 – The Ladies of the Radio Rockstars!

With most of the guys for the Rockstars at the Canucks game for work purposes the team played with more women than men for the first time in Rockstars history and the ladies were awesome. With everyone playing in positions that were out of their comfort zones this game could have been sloppy but everyone proved that the dry land training that everyone did in the off season was worth it. The game started off great with the team putting up 4 Runs in the top of the 1st with singles by Taylor, TL, Lisa, Larkin and Nicole. Then the defense held the Boxcars to only 3 Runs over the first 3 innings, Jason was playing left field for the first time in a long time or maybe ever and he caught everything that came his way, the Cody to TL combo worked well with TL snagging everything that came her way, Kyler and Larkin held down their territory in the field, and Lisa’s toe was the wall at three.

Over the next three innings the Boxcars were able to pick the Rockstars apart a little and showed the inexperience of all the Rockstars in their new positions but the bats of the ladies kept the Rockstars close. Unfortunately the three guys playing on the night all had a off night and were not able to provide any power in the lineup to get the ladies home, every time one of the guys stepped to the plate it seemed there were a couple ladies on base but the guys weren’t able to produce runs and that cost to the Rockstars the ball game. Boxcars win 14-9.

We also had our first two victims of the strike out princess dress! Taylor was the first to put on the dress but TL helped her out two innings later to claim the dress!

Game MVP’s
Natalee Jukes – 3 for 5 with 2 Walks and 1 Double, 2 Runs
Jason Januth – 3 for 5 with 1 Double, 1 Run

TL Reburn – 3 for 6, 1 Run and 1 RBI
Lisa Dickson – 3 for 6, 2 Runs and 2 RBI
Larkin Mckenzie-Ast – 2 for 5, 2 RBI
Nicole MacKay – 3 for 3 – 2 Walks, 1 Run and 2 RBI
